Film Analysis:
The Beaver building was constructed in 1904, located in Manhanttan,New York City by Clinton and Russell. It was built on a triangular site facing Wall street. The building is 15 stories in height and was consideredas the lastest modern office building during the time in New York. It is a neo-Renaissance style building designed with ornamentations on its exterior with sculpture. Within the film of John Wick 2, directed by Chad Stahelski released on the 18th of May, 2017. The Beaver building is known as the Continental Hotel used by dangerous people, but it acts as a middle ground for everyone meaning violence will not be tolorated within the interior of the building. The genre of the film is action/thriller which draws audience who loves action packed scene such as fighting fighting, shooting and chasing. The director manipulates the scene, which is supposed to be within the Beaver building, but location of the scene of the onscreen architecture, is film from another location and is placed into the film to create a sense that it belongs to the offscreen architecture. This is due to how the director wants to appropriate or transform the offscreen architecture to represent it for the purpose of the onscreen architecure.

For example, the interior of the entrance lobby of the onscreen architecture (Continental Hotel) was appropriated from the hall of the Cunard Building to create a space in which the director wants the audience to believe that it is actually in the offscreen architecture. This shows that the director only used the exterior of the beaver building to highlight it as an important building within the onscreen architecture, where he uses different spaces from other different location to show off the onscreen architecture.

Similarly, the director shows the roof of the Continental Hotel where John Wick meets the owner of the hotel. This scene was not actually shot at the location of the offscreen architecture but is shot on the Rockfeller Plaza building, with St. Patrick’s Cathedral as a Backdrop for the scene. This furthermore highlight that the director’s intention of appropriating and transforming the scene to be more suitable for the narrative of the onscreen architecture.

Furthermore, the onscreen architecture is further exaggerated through its interior of the Continental lounge which does not exist in the offscreen architecture in the Beaver building, where the scene is actually shot in Jane Hotel in Greenwich Village located in New York. Overall, the director wants to create a faults view of the offscreen architecture with the onscreen architecture by manipulating the scene from different location other than the actual building.
